Receiver Far Exceeds ‘Standard Quantum Limit’
Communicating with light may soon get a lot easier, hints recent research from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Univ. of Maryland’s Joint Quantum Institute (JQI), where scientists have potentially found a way to overcome a longstanding barrier to cleaner signals.
The findings, which demonstrate for the first time an error rate far below the “standard quantum limit” for a wide range of light levels, could increase the efficiency of fiber-optic systems by reducing both the power needed to send a signal and the number of errors the receiver makes.

Same-sex marriage is legal in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, and Mexico (where same-sex marriages are allowed in the capital city, but are recognized nationwide).
In Spain the Constitution Court decided on November 6, 2012, that the same-sex marriage bill, implemented in 2005, is constitutional. In Brazil, the Superior Justice Court set an important precedent in October 2011 by interpreting the Brazilian civil code as allowing same-sex marriages.
Marriage equality laws are expected to be adopted soon in France, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.
Same-sex marriage is legal in nine US states.

People often forgot why they went to cable TV in the first place. Initially the cable system was called a “community antenna” designed to give people great reception. The newer all-digital reception is so superior to the old analog system that the public will realize that it can abandon the cable and go back to its roots.
My networking professor was discussing this the other week. He switched to an antenna and gets full HD channels OTA… When you can stream or download anything you want and get local stations/news for free OTA, why pay hundreds for digital cable?
